FAQs

Where can I find details about group runs?

A high level calendar of upcoming group runs and local events can be found here. Details like time/location for LTRC events are kept on MeetUp for member safety and privacy reasons. For full details on upcoming group runs, join our group on MeetUp.

Where do you run?

The majority of our runs are within the greater Burlington, VT area (think: Burlington, Winooski, Colchester, Williston, Richmond, Essex Junction). During the summer and fall, we also have occasional events in Central Vermont - Stowe, Waterbury, the Mad River Valley, and on the Long Trail itself.

Do you run year-round?

Yes! Our Thursday night social runs continue throughout the year. During fall and winter, headlamps are required (it’ll be dark for the entire run) and traction (spikes, screw shoes) might be necessary depending on conditions. During winter, we try to plan for a post-run hang either indoors at a brewery/restaurant or around a fire pit.

That extra motivational boost of a group run is KEY for those dark, cold months. If you need advice on how the heck to run in bitter cold, wind, snow, ice…we can give you some tips! Get in touch or come out to a run.

I’m a beginner or slower runner - will I be too slow for the group?

You are probably just fine! Your best bet is to check the event details on MeetUp, and send a message to the event organizer if you have questions. We try to list distance, pace range and equipment needs (ex: headlamp, hydration pack, trail snacks) on events.

Our regular social runs are “all paces welcome”. Our group typically ranges from 6:00 - 12:00 min/mi (roughly - it is not limited to that range!) - we wait at turns or the tops of hills for folks to gather and ensure no one is left behind. If you’re not up to the distance yet, you can also join for a mile or two, turn back + hang with us when we get done.

Zero judgement - every single one of us started as beginners, and we are beyond psyched to see folks take up the sport!

Is there a fee?

We charge an annual membership fee of $5 per person. This fee goes towards covering costs of MeetUp app access, this website, and special events. Any surplus is donated to local trail maintenance organizations. This fee will be charged directly through MeetUp.

If you would like to donate beyond this amount, visit the “Support” page for recommendations.

Can I host a run?

We love having folks host a run! It’s a perfect way to check out a new trail or route, and spreading the organizing/hosting role between many people makes this group sustaiable for the long haul! Contact us via the MeetUp messaging function or the contact form on this site to talk deets.

The details for {insert name of race/special event on calendar} are wrong!

We often share events from other groups or organizations that might interest trail runners. For details on local races or special events organized by others, always, ALWAYS, check their organization’s webpage or social for details and updates!

I occasionally make mistakes or typos, and event details change over time - as a volunteer, I don’t have time to update our calendar to reflect those changes constantly. I do my best but…check with the actual organizers.
