Bolton Valley

While you might think of it as a ski resort, Bolton Valley has so much to offer trail runners and hikers: challenging climbs, incredible views, beautiful wildflower meadow! Don’t miss the power-hike to Vista Peak’s fire tower for an amazing 360 degree view of the Green Mountains. The lightly trafficked (watch for moose…) spur trails that connect to the Long Trail for Harrington’s View offer some peaceful solitude and nice lookout point. Finally, the access road itself is one of my favorite slogs while training for a hilly race - climbing 1800 feet over about 4 miles, the vert is very much real.

Route: Vista Peak + Firetower (3.2 mi)

Route: Harrington's View (5.6 mi)

Route: Bolton Access Road (8.5 mi)

Post-Run: The Bolton Potholes are perfect for a post-run cannonball or natural “ice bath” for your legs. Use caution and avoid using them after heavy rains - the water moves very fast and there have been deaths at this location! Bolton Valley has great on-site options for a bite - including a seasonal creemee stand and a Mad Taco outpost! Just down the hill in Richmond, Hatchet (farm-to-table pub grub), Big Spruce (mexican), Stone’s Throw (pizza) and Stone Corral brewing are all worthy of a stop!

Support Our Trails: These trails are maintained by Bolton Valley resort. Access for hikers and runners is free. Support them by patronizing their on-site businesses, special events, being kind to folks you see working on the trails, and by respecting all closures/restrictions including no foot traffic on the MTB trails and limited areas for dogs.
